How

BlackBerry Pearl 8100If you want to perform a hard reset or wipe out the entire data in your BlackBerry Pearl, perform the steps as provided in the following section. However, before you perform those steps, please note that hard resetting your BlackBerry Pearl will erase all data in your device and revert it to factory settings.

Now that you are aware of what you will be performing, here are the steps:

  1. On your BlackBerry Pearl, go to Options
  2. Select Security Options
  3. Select General Settings
  4. Press the button located left of the trackball
  5. Finally, select Wipe Handheld

Good luck and please remember that performing these steps will wipe out the entire data in your BlackBerry. It is best that you perform a backup just in case something goes awry.

However that doesn’t do a complete factory default wipe. It leaves apps you installed. I’d like to perform a complete reset so the device is just like when I unboxed it. No 3rd party software. There has to be a method, but all I keep finding are posts like this one, which I consider a soft reset.

Hey thanks so much for this post…I have not done the “wipeout” on my phone just yet, but hopefully it works out for me and my phone goes back to normal.
.I actually went into something on the phone, and decided to well…be an idiot…and delete things on there that I was not aware of what their functions were…I soon found out, when I hit the menu button on my phone and my e-mail accounts were no longer visible, although I still recieve my e-mails?!
.Odd, anyways I really hope your solution works.

    .thanks again!

    Hi Daniel,
Try a battery pull. Take out the battery, wait for a minute or so and put it back. Then switch on your blackberry.

If that fails and your device is still under warranty, take it back to the carrier.

My phone keeps deleting all my call logs on it’s own. Every time somebody calls me it shows up on the call log and 2 minutes later it disappears. My call log keeps emptying itself and says “Type a name or number to make a call”. Every time I get a missed call, I can’t view it because it delete itself before I can see it, so I never know who called me. I don’t know if it’s a memory problem or what, but can anybody help me?

The back cover on my phone is kinda stuck to my phone. I can’t open. so I was wondering if I was to reset the phone would it delete everything on my sim card and media card as well or just the data in the phone?

you can take out your simcard and your memory card out of the phone,, and then do the reset, if you cant finde the call logs you might play with the settings i remember seeing something like keep logs or delet logs… or u can try saving the call logs to your txt msg folder..

Powering off the blackberry doesn’t always resolve it, but taking the battery out resolves the issue everytime, unfortunately there is no way to get back those call logs (that i know of)

If you do the “hard” reset, on the new 8110 pearls they also ask you if you want to erase the “3rd” party apps as well. I didn’t notice the first time I reset it, but I accidently scrolled while I had that screen up and there was a check box there that said to erase 3rd party apps! Works WONDERFUL!

Ok, I don’t know if anyone can help me.. but here’s my LONG story. [Sorry]

A few days ago, this guy tried to steal my phone. I found it, picked it up, and then it was locked for whatever reason. (Looked all funky.) I didn’t have a password and tried guessing one, only to have it tell me it was the last attempt. I tried calling T-Mobile (I think the lady screwed me over) because she told me that she had no idea what my phone was doing and to just type in a random password. Which, in return, made my phone go CRAZY and started wiping everything. It really made me mad. Then my phone wouldn’t turn back on in forever. Then it had some weird message, it was a white screen with some kind of triangle, square, and circle or something saying to reboot 515 or whatever it was. Finally, I talked to Blackberry and they had no idea what was going on either. Finally, the lady told me to look up this update software thing and reput it all on my phone. So I finally got it to work, and my phone’s back on.

The problem is, I have the Fave5, and it doesn’t show up on the screen anymore. You have to go through all these folders to find it. Also, the outside of the phone, usually it shows who’s calling, who’s texting, even the clock.. But now all it shows is T-Mobile. Which is NEVER used to do. All the settings say that it’s supposed to show everything, but it’s not. And now it seems like it’s not showing my Fave5 at all.

I just did another hard reset (and wiped the whole phone) to see if it would turn back to complete factory settings… But it did not. Everything’s still messed up. Does anyone know how to fix this? Please let me know! I don’t have the money to get a new phone. And I don’t see what the point is of paying $100 phone bill when my phone’s messed up!

    Any ideas?

Blackberry Curve 8100. I downloaded and installed some new software via blackberry desktop manager which has seemed to render my blackberry useless. I cant turn the phone on. When i remove the battery and replace it the hour glass appears for 2 or 3 seconds then an icon appears which is square in shape. in a circle and with a line thru it and it has the number ‘507′ under it. The icon remains on a white background as long as the battery is in the phone.

Is there any way of resetting a blackberry without it actually being able to turn on?? Or is there another way of getting it to work.

Most of the posts here are calls for help based upon symptoms which indicate the PEARL had been exposed to excessive MOISTURE. Water droplets form under the phenolic membrane of the Keyboard, disturbing the key scanning routine. You can observe the effects when letters appear when not typed, esp. Q or any keys around the edges of the keyboard.

    DO NOT TAKE YOUR BLACKBERRY PRDUCTS INTO THE WASHROOM;
Long showers even with cold water can build up moisture.

    If you see the effects of moisture, key scans that indicate false keypresses, long periods where the rotating hourglass appear, long boot periods, unresponsive power up with red led flash;

    TURN OFF THE POWER,

    REMOVE POWER CELL

    PLACE/IMMERSE ENTIRE PHONE UPSIDE/KEYBOARD DOWN
IN A BOWL OF DRY RICE, or in a large sealed
container, such as a margerine or cool-whip tub.

The rice will act as a desiccant agent
drawing moisture away from the phone or other object

A desiccant is a hygroscopic substance
that induces or sustains a state of dryness
    (desiccation) in its local vicinity
    in a moderately well-sealed container.

    Why Rice?
Its cheap, plentiful, and works without Toxic effects

    DONT USE A HAIR DRYER
    heat is micro-electronics worst enemy
unless the dryer has a FAN ONLY setting
    even then—
it will take too long to dry out the object

    DONT USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR
unless it has a good filter…
that puts more moisture into the object,
or blows moisture further into the object

If you use desiccant crystals, or baby diaper
contents; there are some toxic elements to these materials, if exposed to other elements; disposal
of the desiccant after the operation will be an
    environmental problem (and a mess)
although just placing the packing type “bagged”
desiccant crystals into a tub with the device
    also works

    Dry RICE does work.
Its cheap. Many Kitchens have some.
You may have to keep the object buried into
the rice for some time depending
upon how much moisture is in the object.

AFTER YOU GET YOUR PEARL/CURVE OR OBJECT
    KEYBOARD WORKING,

PLEASE BACK UP YOUR PHONE NUMBERS TO YOUR
COMPUTER, BACK UP YOUR DATA SUCH AS MPEG,
MOVE IT AWAY. ITS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO RECOVER
    BURNED UP CIRCUITS FROM MOISTURE-SHORTING;
    micro-circuits work on such tiny currents ;
water droplets can short so much current as to burn
up circuits, so POWER OFF the moment you suspect
    water intrusion.

    Prevention

    USE A SKIN or PROTECTOR
(ok this sounds way too much like a condom ad)

Stay away from high humidity or moisture
LIKE THE BATHROOM; its fun to SMS and talk and
    Browse wihile doing nails, etc
Ok but nasty surprise 10-20 minutes later
    as cold/condensation kicks in

It IS POSSIBLE for an experienced
    Electronic Professional
    to take apart some electronis
    and spray everything with
    “CONFORMAL COATING”
a special plastic stinky coating spray
which can almost make circuits water-proof,
    but connectors and keyboard contacts
    cannot be sprayed;

    prevention is the cure

only you can prevent wierd phone effects

    from Johanna’s Dad
(late #@$%ing at night, in a panic,
when I least need this sh!t from my Daughter
    ‘My Phones not working,
oh yah I just took a shower with my phone’
what? one of those 45 minute ones?)

For the person that said that the txt messages and call logs disappear, I had the same problem. I spent days at Verizon and on the phone with tech. support until finally they agreed it was something wrong with the phone and replaced it. Now I am having problems with the vz navigator on my phone and they are again saying it’s a problem with the new phone itself. AARrrrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!

Me and my boyfriend both upgraded to the Pearl Flip phones only to return the first one due to some hardwear issue. Now the second one is having memory issues. I added images and music through the usb cable which it recognized perfectly on my phone, however, two days later everything was gone and it no longer is recognized by my computer through that same usb cord. I am trying the memory wipe, any ideas?

    Thanks!

i have a blackberry 8130 …… it doesnt charge properly it takes 10hrs before it does but first it drains the battery and it constantly deletes messages or shuts off and im wondering if i wiped the device if it would fix the problem… the only concern i have is that when i now plug my phone into the computer my computer says device malfuntioned or not recognized so i fear it will still say that once device is wiped and i wont be able to fix it

I have a blackberry pearl through sprint and It has only been about a month since I bought it. It drops ALL CALLS, regardless of signal after about 2 minutes, deletes my call logs and messages, and the best part is it will blink to say I have a message or a call but nothing shows up. So not only can I not read it or answer the call but I have no idea who is trying to contact me.

I have had 5 blackberrys in 4 months, when they replace them under warranty through the dealer you purchased it from, the phone you get is NOT NEW, its just someones reconditioned unit that looks new, BE CAREFULL, because it has all the new plastic covers etc.
I finally recieved a new phone in its box and now i have one that works.
This “wipe handheld” works well for most problems.
I wish i had tried it earlier.
    Many thanks

    HELP!!!!

I am currently try to unlock my 8100 from one network to every other net work.

I only had two attempts to enter the unlocking code but I has 5 unlocking codes, as you can probably guess from this message the first two codes did not work, I have tried re setting the 8100 but I still have no attempts left.

Does anyone know how I can get more attempts to unlock the phone??

Your help will be a massive help.

    Thanks
